This one-day hike is intended for more experienced hikers who aren't scared by longer distances and higher elevations. However, as a reward, you'll undoubtedly find multiple beautiful viewpoints in all directions, whether from lookout points, hills, or even while walking. Personally, I haven't been there yet, but I'm planning to go.
The route covers 27.4 km and involves an impressive ascent of 1955 meters. If you don't fancy running, you'll need to set aside the whole day. It's best to start early in the morning because according to sk.mapy.cz, it will take around 11.5 hours.
Along the way, there will be views of the natural monument Domašínsky meander, as well as the opportunity to visit Strečno Castle. You can enjoy the views from the Špicák lookout, take a photo by the interesting rock formation with the charming Slovak name Kojšovský budzogáň, and last but not least, be captivated by the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from the peaks of Polom and Minčol hills. In good visibility, apart from the Strážov Mountains and the Small and Big Fatra ranges, you might also be able to see more distant mountains.
Of course, you can also shorten the route. You can skip the visit to the natural monument Domašinský meander, which will save you 3 km (I know, not a significant shortcut :) ).
Alternatively, you can split the hike into two parts. The ascent to the Minčol peak from the town Vrútky and a circuit including the Špicák lookout, Budzogáň, and the meander, with the starting point under Strečno Castle.
The circular trip to Minčol covers 13 km and almost 1000 meters of elevation gain. You can also add Polom if it's not enough for you.
The circuit from Strečno is very similar, also 13 km and 920 meters of elevation gain, with the highest point being the Polom peak.
By splitting the hike into 2 days, even families with children can manage it. So, don't be discouraged and set out to explore the Lúčanská Malá Fatra and some of its beauties.
